A wedding marks a major milestone, as it reflects the choice to share life with that special someone. While many couples celebrate close to home, surrounded by deep emotional ties, others seek the thrill and surprises of a destination wedding. For the latter, the possibilities are endless; from Italy’s Amalfi coast to Greece’s Santorini island. Still, few places rival the charm of Aruba, a longtime favorite among couples worldwide, industry experts, and niche-renown publications.
At first glance, a wedding in Aruba (or any foreign destination, for that matter) can feel intimidating due to all the details that need to be handled from afar. But no bride should face added stress while preparing for her big day, especially if she hopes to enjoy the peacefulness of the One Happy Island. That is why we have gathered key points to help turn your dream of a grand get-together into reality. Keep reading and start getting ready to say “I do”.

Legal requirements for holding a wedding in Aruba

It is no secret that Aruba offers some of the most breathtaking locations to honor love, whether for a symbolic ceremony or a complete experience with legal vows and a lively reception party. The process stays simple, but those seeking official recognition must follow specific rules from the Oranjestad Courthouse.
Naturally, both individuals must be over 18 and respect the dress code, which excludes flip-flops, shorts, bathing suits, and/or cut-offs of any kind. According to the island’s official tourism website, couples must email and then send the following physical documents via courier (such as FedEx or DHL) at least one month prior to the selected date:
- Copies of the passport identification page of the bride and groom.
- Complete birth certificate of the bride and groom, including the parents’ names and a raised seal. The interested parties must apostille these at the Secretary of State’s office after obtaining the seal.
- A Certificate of No Impediment is required for both the bride and groom. This “report of single status” or “ negative statement for marriage” confirms that the partners are single and are eligible to marry. It is typically issued by the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the country of residence (except in England, where the Commonwealth Department is responsible). In Canada, individuals who have never been married can request a sworn declaration from a lawyer or public notary.
- Those with previous marriages wishing to celebrate their wedding in Aruba must present an apostilled Final Divorce Decree or, if applicable, an apostilled Death Certificate.
- Copies of the passport identification page of two (2) witnesses, who must also be of legal age. Those who are traveling alone can ask their wedding planner to provide local witnesses.
- All couples are obligated to complete the Aruba Declaration of Marriage Intent form and the Aruba Declaration Single Status form. Wedding planners typically assist with these applications.
Additional considerations for your wedding planning
All ceremonies take place at City Hall, a historic building located on Schoolstraat 2 in Oranjestad, during the following times:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Saturdays: available for an additional fee.
After completing the civil wedding in Aruba, you can hold a religious blessing. We suggest reviewing the necessary documents in advance, as some may require a marriage certificate from your country of residence. To ease the process, hire an experienced wedding planner familiar with all the aspects that need to be considered. Not sure where to start? Check the tourism office’s recommendations.

The best locations to get married in Aruba

Popular wedding locations in Aruba include Eagle Beach and Palm Beach, as well as charming and intimate boutique hotels. Credit: Ocean Z Hotel & Restaurant
Now that we have covered the formalities, let’s explore the top spots for the ultimate wedding in Aruba. Since this destination is famous for its beaches, we have to highlight Eagle Beach, with its fine white sand and unique Fofoti trees. Palm Beach is not far behind, with its two-mile long length favored by water sports enthusiasts. If this sounds like what you have envisioned, you will be happy to know that plenty of special packages can make the event feel like a magazine shoot.
But if you are looking for an intimate gathering, away from the crowds, consider a small, private venue such as a boutique hotel. Take Ocean Z in Noord, for example. With only 13 suites and an international-style restaurant, it offers personalized, detail-oriented service for a memorable ceremony and/or reception. The property is available for rent and includes the team’s support with décor, catering, and even entertainment. Want more information? Email info@oceanzaruba.com.
No matter the place you choose, we are sure you will have a wonderful time. To improve your experience, here are a couple of final recommendations: travel during the off-season for better rates on flights and accommodations, and visit the island before the big day. This ensures everything runs smoothly and gives you the perfect excuse for a quick Caribbean escape.
